At Dubai Airport, Your Face Is Now Your Boarding Pass: Emirates Rolls Out Full Biometric Travel

Emirates Introduces Face-Based Travel at Dubai Airport: Your Face Is Now Your Boarding Pass

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is redefining air travel convenience. Emirates airline has rolled out a cutting-edge biometric facial recognition system that lets travelers pass through the airport using only their face — no need for a passport or boarding pass.

The project, developed in collaboration with the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFAD), marks a Dh85 million investment by Emirates. Over 200 biometric-enabled cameras have been installed across Terminal 3, streamlining every step of the airport journey — from check-in to boarding.

A Seamless Airport Experience

Once registered, Emirates customers can breeze through check-in, immigration, boarding gates, and lounges using only facial recognition. The advanced cameras can recognize passengers from up to one metre away, drastically reducing waiting times and eliminating the need to present documents repeatedly.

This initiative is part of Dubai’s vision to make air travel faster, smarter, and fully digital, enhancing both security and passenger convenience.

How It Works: Emirates’ 5-Step Biometric Journey

Step 1: Register Once

Registration is simple and can be completed via the Emirates app, at Self-Service Kiosks, or check-in desks at Dubai Airport.

Travelers must be 18 years or older.

You need to be a member of Emirates Skywards.

Just scan your passport in the Emirates app, ensure your details match your Skywards profile, and give consent for Emirates to access your biometric record from GDRFAD.

Once registered, your biometric data stays securely linked to your Emirates profile for future travel.

Step 2: Biometric Check-In

Registered passengers can use biometric self-check-in kiosks instead of waiting in queues. Just look at the camera — no ID or documents needed.

Emirates also plans to expand biometric check-in to include flight connections, making transfers at Dubai International smoother than ever.

Step 3: Smart Gates at Immigration

Skip the traditional immigration queues by using the biometric smart gates at Terminal 3.
Simply step into the gate, glance at the camera, and you’ll be cleared in seconds.

This feature is available for:

UAE citizens and residents

GCC nationals

Visa-on-arrival visitors with biometric passports

With processing times as quick as seven seconds, it’s one of the fastest immigration systems in the world.

Step 4: Biometric Lounge Entry

Eligible passengers with lounge access can now enter Emirates lounges through facial recognition.
At Concourse B, five biometric gates let customers simply look at the camera and walk through — no boarding pass required.

Step 5: Fast Biometric Boarding

When it’s time to board, Emirates passengers can use biometric-enabled gates located in Concourses A, B, and C.
Instead of scanning a ticket, passengers’ faces are matched with their flight details — speeding up the entire boarding process.

More biometric gates are expected to be added soon.

Security, Privacy, and Consent

Emirates ensures that all biometric data is managed securely in collaboration with GDRFAD Dubai.
If a traveler already has a biometric record in the UAE, Emirates simply links to that profile upon registration.

For visitors without an existing GDRFAD record, Emirates creates a temporary biometric profile for consent and identification. Once the person enters Dubai, the profile is automatically converted into a permanent GDRFAD record for future use.

This integration ensures privacy, accuracy, and compliance with Dubai’s digital governance standards.

Leaders Speak on Dubai’s Biometric Vision

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and COO, said:

“With our latest Biometrics Path development, Emirates is investing in innovation that enhances the customer travel experience. Our collaboration with GDRFAD ensures passengers enjoy remarkable speed, efficiency, and accuracy at Terminal 3.”

Lt. Gen. Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFAD Dubai, added:

“Innovation is at the heart of our services. By integrating AI and biometric technologies, we are making travel through Dubai faster, safer, and smarter. This collaboration reflects Dubai’s commitment to digital excellence and seamless travel.”

The Future of Contactless Travel

Dubai International is quickly becoming the world’s most technologically advanced airport. With biometric corridors, AI-powered immigration, and paperless check-ins, the vision is clear — to make travel as easy as a smile.

For Emirates passengers, that future is already here: at Dubai Airport, your face is your boarding pass.
