Emirates Road Set to Fully Reopen Monday After Major Upgrade
Dubai: One of Dubai’s busiest highways, Emirates Road, will fully reopen on Monday, August 25, following a major rehabilitation project spanning a 14-km stretch connecting Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. The timing coincides with the start of the new school year, offering relief to thousands of daily commuters.
What’s Changed?
Over the past 2–3 months, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) upgraded both fast and slow lanes in both directions. Engineers used laser detection and smoothness-scanning vehicles to identify and repair structural wear. The road’s Pavement Quality Index (PQI) had fallen to 85%, below the 90% standard, prompting the full-scale maintenance. Work was carried out in 400–500 meter segments, mostly during weekends to minimize traffic disruption.
What Drivers Can Expect
Once reopened, motorists will benefit from:
Up to 45% faster travel times between Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Ras Al Khaimah.
Smoother and safer rides due to upgraded surfaces.
Reduced fuel consumption and vehicle wear, lowering daily commuting costs.
Residents are excited about the upgrade. A Sharjah commuter said: “I’m looking forward to a smooth ride without the constant jams.” Another added: “The upgrade will save me time and make my commute predictable again.”
The Countdown Begins
With the back-to-school rush imminent, the Emirates Road reopening promises improved traffic flow, safer journeys, and a more comfortable commute along one of the UAE’s most important roadways.
