DEWA, Dubai Taxi to Roll Out 208 Ultra-Fast EV Charging Points in Long-Term Sustainability Push

Dubai has taken another major step toward becoming a global leader in sustainable mobility. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Dubai Taxi Company (DTC) have signed a long-term strategic agreement to establish 208 ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging points across the emirate.

The signing took place at the 27th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2025), hosted at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The deal was formalised in the presence of Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, alongside Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, CEO of Dubai Taxi Company.

Supporting Green Mobility

The new charging points will be developed under DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative, which was first launched in 2014 to create a world-class charging network. The programme already operates more than 1,500 charging points across Dubai, making it one of the most advanced EV infrastructure systems in the region.

Al Tayer said the expansion aligns with several of Dubai’s long-term strategies, including the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030, the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.

“This new collaboration strengthens Dubai’s global leadership in sustainable mobility,” Al Tayer explained. “By rolling out advanced ultra-fast charging solutions, we are helping reduce carbon emissions, improve efficiency, and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a competitive and future-ready city.”

Ultra-Fast Charging Capabilities

The project will introduce chargers with capacities of up to 360 kW, making them some of the fastest in the UAE. This level of power means that electric taxis and limousines can recharge in under 30 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime for vehicles in operation.

The first phase will include two large charging hubs at DTC’s depot near Dubai International Airport and its headquarters in Muhaisnah 4, serving as key nodes in the company’s electrification journey.

By 2030, DTC expects its EV fleet to exceed 2,500 vehicles, and the new charging stations will be critical in meeting that demand.

Cutting Nearly 50,000 Tonnes of Carbon Emissions

The initiative is projected to reduce 37,939 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually in its initial phase. When combined with existing EV charging infrastructure, total annual emission reductions are expected to reach nearly 49,654 metric tonnes.

This contribution marks a significant step toward the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 Strategy, demonstrating how targeted infrastructure investments can drive tangible environmental impact.

Dubai Taxi Company’s Electrification Roadmap

DTC, which controls around 45% of Dubai’s taxi market, has set an ambitious goal to fully electrify its fleet—including both taxis and limousines—by 2040.

Abdul Mushen Ibrahim Kalbat, Chairman of the Board of Directors at DTC, called the deal with DEWA a “strategic investment in the future of mobility.”

“This partnership strengthens our ambition to be a role model for clean, connected, and efficient transport solutions, while advancing Dubai’s—and the UAE’s—climate action goals,” Kalbat said.

The collaboration supports DTC’s transition roadmap, which aligns with wider urban mobility strategies to reduce congestion, lower emissions, and promote smarter, more sustainable forms of transport.

A Decade of Progress in EV Infrastructure

Since DEWA launched the EV Green Charger initiative more than a decade ago, the demand for EV charging has grown rapidly in line with consumer adoption and government targets. The latest agreement with DTC is considered a milestone in the programme’s expansion, reinforcing the emirate’s ability to stay ahead of rising EV adoption.

Industry experts note that the presence of reliable ultra-fast charging infrastructure is one of the key enablers for widescale electrification of public and private fleets. Dubai’s forward-looking approach ensures that EV users, whether residents or visitors, benefit from fast, accessible, and efficient charging solutions across the city.

Looking Ahead

With DEWA and DTC joining forces, Dubai is strengthening its position as a pioneer of green transport solutions in the Middle East. The partnership not only accelerates the adoption of clean mobility but also supports Dubai’s broader ambition to become one of the world’s most sustainable and connected cities.

As the emirate continues to roll out advanced digital, transport, and energy solutions, the integration of ultra-fast EV charging networks will serve as a cornerstone of Dubai’s low-carbon urban future.
