Dubai Resident Faces Dh39,119 Fraudulent Charges Despite OTPs, Frustrates Over Bank Response

A Dubai resident, Mr. Eri T., reported three fraudulent transactions totaling Dh39,119 on his Emirates NBD Infinite credit card in February 2022. The charges, made at a Russian merchant called CODE4GAME in Nizhny Novgorod, were authenticated via OTPs, though Mr. Eri insists he was asleep at the time, lives alone, and has never visited Russia or played online games.

Despite immediate reporting, card blocking, and a dispute request, he claims he faced months of uncertainty. From February 22 to April 10, he says he received no updates, even after multiple calls and three visits to ENBD’s Deira headquarters. On April 11, after demanding a supervisor, he was told the fraud team had concluded on March 11 that he was liable because OTPs were used, but he had only been informed a month later.

“I was instructed to file a police report just three days before my bill deadline, with no supporting documents,” he said, expressing disappointment over ENBD’s handling despite being a loyal top-tier cardholder.

Emirates NBD responded: “Our Group Customer Experience team has been in touch with Mr. Eri T. and provided necessary clarifications regarding his claim. While we cannot comment on individual cases to maintain confidentiality, we confirm having followed the appropriate procedures and assisted him to the fullest extent.”
