Dubai: The UAE’s Indian expat community is mourning the sudden death of Jacob Palathumpattu John, popularly known as Arun, the 46-year-old son of renowned jeweller Babu John, chairman of the Sky Jewellery Group. Arun passed away from sudden cardiac arrest at his Dubai residence on the evening of September 8, 2025, despite having no known health issues.
Arun, executive director of Sky Jewellery, played a pivotal role in expanding the family business into regional and international markets. Born in Kerala and raised between Doha and Dubai, he was respected for his dynamic leadership and commitment to both family and tradition.
He is survived by his wife, a 15-year-old daughter, and a 12-year-old son. Tributes have poured in from across the UAE and Kerala, with Sky Jewellery outlets and affiliated businesses closing in his honor.
The family is preparing to repatriate his body to Kerala, where the funeral will be held, with community and business leaders set to pay their respects. Arun’s untimely passing is seen as a reminder of the risks of sudden cardiac arrests, even among young, seemingly healthy professionals.
