The stage is set for the 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which will take place from November 12 to 22 at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City. This year’s edition will be the largest in the championship’s history, with a record-breaking 10,000 athletes from more than 130 countries competing — a milestone that cements Abu Dhabi’s standing as the global capital of jiu-jitsu and one of the world’s premier sports destinations.
The record participation reflects the growing trust of the global martial arts community in the UAE’s ability to host world-class events that combine competitive excellence with unmatched hospitality.
Speaking about the achievement, Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Chairman of the Championship Organising Committee, expressed pride in the athletes who continue to elevate the UAE’s reputation on the global stage.
“I would like to express my appreciation to our National Team athletes, who have proudly raised the UAE flag at every international event, including the recent Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Thailand. Their discipline and dedication reflect the spirit of our nation,” Al Dhaheri said.
He added that this year’s edition is the biggest in the event’s history and represents a moment of pride for the UAE as it welcomes thousands of athletes, coaches, and fans from all corners of the world.
“We are happy to welcome everyone to the UAE — a country known for creativity, generosity, and tolerance. Our goal is to make sure every participant feels at home, surrounded by friends and supporters,” he said.
Al Dhaheri also acknowledged the invaluable role of families, coaches, and administrators, saying their continued support ensures the steady growth of jiu-jitsu at both the grassroots and professional levels.

He added that supporting such events aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision of using sport as a means to promote cultural exchange, healthy lifestyles, and youth engagement.
Corporate partners have also played a crucial role in supporting the championship’s continued growth.
Saed Hijazi Salameh, General Manager of Sales for Jaguar Land Rover at Premier Motors, said his company is proud to be part of the event’s legacy.
“We are honored to continue our 14-year partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. This championship represents excellence, determination, and community spirit — values that resonate deeply with our brand.”
Meanwhile, Marwa Al Rahma, Vice President and Head of Events and Social Responsibility at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), highlighted the positive impact of the bank’s long-term support.
“Our partnership with the Federation and the FAB Jiu-Jitsu Academy has helped expand participation in the sport, with over 2,000 students now training regularly,” she said.
“This reflects our commitment to promoting healthy living, national pride, and youth empowerment.”
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, revealed that 32% of participants this year are women, while 60% of competitors come from outside the UAE.
“These numbers show the growing global confidence in Abu Dhabi as the home of jiu-jitsu,” Al Shamsi said.
“The championship is not just a competition — it’s a celebration of cultural diversity, sportsmanship, and community.”
He also thanked sponsors and partners for their continued support, calling them key contributors to the championship’s success and its role in uniting athletes from around the world.
