The strategic purpose of Hafeet Rail is to strengthen economic ties by establishing a seamless transport link across borders and creating a unified logistics platform for both countries. The initial phase focuses on connecting Sohar with the UAE’s national rail network to facilitate passenger and freight movement. For travelers, Hafeet Rail will offer faster, more convenient, and scenic journeys. It will reduce travel time between Abu Dhabi and Sohar to about 1 hour and 40 minutes, down from around 3 hours and 25 minutes. The train will travel at speeds up to 200 km/h, providing a modern, comfortable alternative to driving. The railway will have more than 12 passenger stations and link 5 major ports along with over 15 integrated freight facilities. It is expected to boost tourism by making cross-border trips easier and offering picturesque routes through deserts, valleys, mountains, including the Jebel Hafeet region. By providing a smooth and efficient alternative to road travel, Hafeet Rail will eliminate delays at border crossings and reduce reliance on cars, especially during busy or adverse weather conditions. Construction is underway, with the Hafeet Rail Company currently working on finalizing the operational timeline. This railway is set to transform travel and trade between the UAE and Oman.
