Galadari Trucks and Heavy Equipment (GTHE), a flagship subsidiary of Galadari Brothers, is showcasing a hydrogen-powered engine developed by JCB at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2026 in Dubai.

The initiative highlights the company's efforts to introduce more sustainable equipment solutions to the UAE's heavy machinery and construction sectors.

Hydrogen Engine Offers an Alternative to Diesel

The JCB engine uses hydrogen as fuel and is designed as an alternative to conventional diesel-powered machinery. Unlike hybrid systems that combine different power sources, this engine operates using hydrogen.

Ahmad Juma, National Sales Manager at Galadari Trucks and Heavy Equipment, described the product as an important development in the company's sustainability efforts.

The engine is currently being displayed as a standalone unit before being integrated into machinery designed to operate on hydrogen.

Hydrogen Infrastructure Remains a Challenge

Despite the potential of hydrogen-powered equipment, wider adoption depends partly on the availability of suitable fuel infrastructure.

Juma explained that not every company has the facilities required to use hydrogen-powered machinery. He also highlighted the role of hydrogen fuel facilities established by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in supporting the development of the technology.

The company plans to encourage adoption gradually as infrastructure develops and the market becomes more prepared for hydrogen-powered solutions.

Electric Construction Equipment Also on Display

Alongside the hydrogen engine, Galadari is presenting other equipment designed to support more sustainable operations.

These include fully electric scissor lifts and an electric excavator that does not require conventional fuel.

However, the transition to cleaner machinery may take time, particularly because many construction sites continue to rely on traditional equipment.

Juma compared the process with the growing adoption of electric cars, noting that the expansion of charging infrastructure helped make electric vehicles more accessible.

Partnership with DEWA

Galadari Trucks and Heavy Equipment distributes several international equipment brands, including Komatsu, Bomag, JCB, Genie and Atlas Copco.

Juma identified DEWA as an important strategic partner, noting that the authority purchases many of the machines showcased by the company.

The partnership could also provide opportunities to demonstrate emerging technologies and explore their practical applications.

A Gradual Shift Towards Sustainable Machinery

Galadari's participation at WETEX 2026 reflects the growing focus on alternative fuels and electric equipment in the UAE.

Hydrogen engines and electric construction machinery offer potential alternatives to conventional equipment, but their wider use will depend on factors such as infrastructure, operational requirements and market readiness.

By presenting these technologies at the exhibition, the company is highlighting possible pathways towards more sustainable heavy equipment operations.
