CNN Signs Multi-Year Partnership with Google to Explore AI

CNN has announced a multi-year partnership with Google to explore how generative artificial intelligence (AI) can create new opportunities for audience engagement and content discovery.

The agreement marks the first partnership announced since Skydance's merger with Paramount, under CEO David Ellison, who has been working to position the media group as a technology-driven business.

Google to Explore New AI-Powered Features

Under the agreement, CNN will provide enhanced content rights for experimental features in Google's products. The collaboration aims to explore new ways for audiences to discover news, access information and engage with digital content.

Sam Felix, CNN's senior vice president of strategic partnerships and business development, said Google's innovations in generative AI have changed how people discover information and content. The partnership will allow CNN to explore additional ways to reach and engage audiences.

Focus on Content Rights and Intellectual Property

CNN said the partnership aligns with its strategy to protect its intellectual property while exploring commercial opportunities involving emerging technologies.

The network also noted that it has several commercial partnerships and ongoing discussions with other industry players.

The financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

CNN's Global Media Operations

CNN operates television, streaming and digital news services worldwide. Its operations include CNN International, CNN Originals, a direct-to-consumer subscription service and CNN Newsource.

The partnership reflects the growing interest among media organisations and technology companies in exploring how generative AI can support content discovery and audience engagement.

Further details about specific experimental features and their implementation were not provided in the announcement.
