for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) is actively working to expand the adoption of e-Emirates IDs in these critical areas. During a Federal National Council (FNC) session, member Adnan Al Hammadi highlighted ongoing challenges caused by the current requirement to present physical Emirates ID cards. He noted that residents often face difficulties when accessing healthcare, completing financial transactions, or checking into hotels without their physical IDs. Responding to these concerns, Minister Abdul Rahman Al Owais confirmed that the e-Emirates ID has already been implemented across many services and that the authority is prioritizing its wider adoption in the sectors mentioned. The biometric face recognition service was initially introduced during GITEX 2021 via the UAEPASS app, which serves as the UAE’s secure national digital identity platform. Through UAEPASS, citizens and residents can securely access digital versions of official documents, including their Emirates ID. ICP acknowledges potential challenges related to identity verification with the new system and is collaborating with partners across sectors to develop and test advanced biometric technologies. The authority is committed to ensuring full compliance with laws and data protection standards to build user trust while expanding smart digital services.
