Dubai: Woman jailed, to be deported for over Dh3-million theft in crypto wallet swap

A Dubai criminal court has sentenced a woman to imprisonment and ordered her deportation after finding her guilty of stealing more than Dh3 million through a sophisticated cryptocurrency wallet swap scam. The case highlights the growing risks associated with digital asset crimes and the UAE’s strict stance against financial fraud.

According to court records, the accused gained unauthorized access to a victim’s cryptocurrency accounts by executing a wallet swap technique. This method involved manipulating digital credentials and transferring crypto assets from the victim’s wallet to wallets under the accused’s control without consent. The fraudulent transactions resulted in losses exceeding Dh3 million.

Investigations revealed that the accused exploited weaknesses in digital security systems and used advanced technical methods to conceal the transfers. Authorities were alerted after the victim noticed suspicious activity and reported the incident to Dubai Police. Cybercrime specialists traced the digital transactions, leading to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

During the trial, prosecutors presented detailed forensic evidence, including transaction logs, digital footprints, and expert testimony confirming the illegal transfer of funds. The court ruled that the evidence clearly proved intentional theft and misuse of electronic systems, violating UAE cybercrime and financial laws.

In its judgment, the court imposed a jail sentence, ordered the confiscation of illicit gains, and mandated the woman’s deportation following the completion of her prison term. Legal experts say the ruling sends a strong warning to individuals involved in crypto-related fraud, reinforcing that digital currencies are subject to the same legal protections as traditional financial assets.

UAE authorities continue to urge residents and investors to strengthen cybersecurity measures, avoid sharing sensitive information, and promptly report suspicious digital activity. The case serves as a reminder that while cryptocurrencies offer innovation and opportunity, misuse can lead to severe legal consequences.
