How NRIs in UAE Can Update Indian Passport Address

UAE NRIs Can Update Indian Passport Address Through Reissue

Dubai: Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) living in the UAE who have an outdated address in their Indian passport can now update it by applying for a passport reissue. The passport must always reflect the current or permanent Indian address.

How to Apply

NRIs need to book an appointment and visit BLS International Services UAE, the authorized service provider for the Consulate General of India (CGI).

Documents Required for Address Proof

Applicants must provide valid documents such as:

Latest electricity, water, gas, or telephone bills (in English, not older than three months)

Aadhaar card, e-Aadhaar, or election commission card (original)

Original nativity certificate attested by the state home department, or an online verifiable version

Bank passbook of an active account (copies of first page and last year’s transactions)

Application Process

Fill the passport application form under “miscellaneous services” for address change.

Submit your original passport with photocopies.

Attach recent passport-sized photographs as per guidelines.

Ensure your UAE residence visa is valid.

Provide documentary evidence and a request letter for changes.

Address Change Through Spouse or Parent

If updating based on spouse/parent’s passport, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is required.

For spouses/parents in the UAE – NOC via sworn affidavit.

For spouses/parents in India – notarized original NOC.

For minors, address updates follow parent’s passport.

Applicants must appear in person for identity verification.

Option to Add UAE Address

Since 2020, NRIs without a permanent Indian residence can include their UAE address in the passport. Required documents include:

Tenancy contract or property ownership deed

Supporting proof of residence

Updating your passport ensures all official records reflect your current address, helping avoid delays in consular services, travel, or documentation.
