Dubai: Ronaldo Nazario says training '100 times more effective' for footballers now
During a recent appearance in Dubai, Brazilian football icon Ronaldo Nazario shared his insights on how football training has evolved over the years. The two-time FIFA World Cup winner stated that training methods today are “100 times more effective” compared to when he was actively playing professional football.
Ronaldo explained that modern footballers benefit immensely from advancements in sports science, technology, data analysis, nutrition, and recovery techniques. In his playing days, training primarily focused on physical drills and match practice, with limited scientific support. Today, however, clubs use detailed performance metrics, GPS tracking, and video analysis to monitor every aspect of a player’s game.
According to Ronaldo, injury prevention has seen significant improvement due to better understanding of muscle recovery, load management, and personalized fitness programs. Players now have access to professional nutritionists, psychologists, and medical teams who ensure peak performance throughout the season. This holistic approach has increased players’ longevity and consistency at the highest level.
Speaking to young footballers, Ronaldo emphasized the importance of discipline and adaptability in modern football. While natural talent remains essential, he believes success now depends heavily on how players use advanced training tools and maintain professionalism on and off the pitch.
Ronaldo also praised football academies for their structured development programs, stating that young players are now technically and tactically prepared much earlier in their careers. He concluded by saying that if such facilities existed during his era, his performance levels could have been even higher.
His comments underline how football has transformed into a highly scientific and data-driven sport, offering today’s players unprecedented opportunities to excel globally.
