India clinches second consecutive Women’s Kabaddi World Cup title

The Indian women’s kabaddi team has once again captured international attention by securing the Women’s Kabaddi World Cup title for the second consecutive year. In a power-packed final played in Dhaka, India defeated a strong Chinese Taipei side 35–28 in what turned out to be a thrilling championship clash filled with intensity, skill, and strategic brilliance.

Dominant campaign from start to finish

India entered the final as clear favourites after an outstanding run throughout the tournament. They stormed through the group stage undefeated, finishing at the top of their pool with four victories and a total of eight points, proving their superiority early on. In the semi-finals, the Indian side displayed exceptional teamwork as they beat Iran 33–21, securing their spot in the final showdown.

Chinese Taipei also put up an impressive campaign, remaining unbeaten in the group stage and collecting 10 points from five straight wins. They defeated tournament hosts Bangladesh 25–18 in the semi-final to reach their second successive title clash against India, setting up a highly anticipated finale.

A close and electrifying final

The championship match lived up to expectations as both teams showcased tactical discipline and relentless determination. India started strong, displaying aggressive raiding and tight defense. Although Chinese Taipei fought back in the second half, cutting down the lead several times, India held their nerve and maintained control through sharp tackles and decisive raids to secure a 35–28 victory.

This back-to-back triumph adds another proud chapter to the history of Indian women’s kabaddi, highlighting their world-class consistency and mental strength under pressure.

Leaders praise team performance

Puneri Paltan’s head coach Ajay Thakur, a stalwart of Indian kabaddi, expressed immense pride in the achievement. He said,
“It is a very proud moment for India as the women’s team retained the World Cup trophy in Dhaka. Their dominant run through the tournament shows how much women’s kabaddi has progressed in the last few years. This victory also proves the growing global appeal of the sport, and I hope this momentum continues in the coming years.”

Haryana Steelers head coach Manpreet Singh also commended the team’s discipline and spirit.
“The women’s team has delivered a performance the whole country can be proud of. Their belief and teamwork were outstanding. As a former Indian player, I know how challenging it is to reach this level. Big congratulations to the players and support staff.”

Growing global presence

This year’s tournament saw 11 countries participate, highlighting the rapid expansion and international rise of women’s kabaddi. The Group A lineup included India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Urangda, and Germany, while Group B featured Chinese Taipei, Iran, Nepal, Poland, Kenya, and Zanzibar.

India topped Group A with four wins and eight points, followed by Bangladesh with three victories and six points. Chinese Taipei led Group B with a perfect five-match win record and 10 points, while Iran followed closely with eight points from four wins.

The increasing involvement of nations from Asia, Europe, and Africa reflects kabaddi’s growing recognition as a competitive global sport.

This second consecutive title strengthens India’s position as the world leader in women’s kabaddi.
