Dense Fog Hits UAE: Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Dubai Drivers Warned

Dubai/Abu Dhabi: Commuters across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and parts of Dubai faced heavy fog this morning, prompting fresh safety warnings from authorities. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued red and yellow alerts for low visibility, urging drivers to remain vigilant until at least 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Fog blankets major regions

Dense fog covered several areas of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, including Madinat Zayed, Al Khidayrah, Um Al Ashtan, Al Ghuwaifat, and Gasyoura in the Al Dhafra region. Eastern areas such as Um Azimul and Al Qou’ in Al Ain were also affected. In Dubai, western districts including Jebel Ali and Dubai Investments Park (DIP) experienced significantly reduced visibility, affecting early morning commuters on highways and inter-emirate routes.

Abu Dhabi Police issue speed restrictions

Abu Dhabi Police reminded motorists that the maximum speed limit automatically reduces to 80 km/h during foggy conditions. Drivers were urged to maintain safe distances, use fog lights, and avoid sudden lane changes.

NCM forecast: Clouds, winds, and dust

While fog was the main concern, the NCM forecast predicts partly cloudy skies throughout the day, with light to moderate winds occasionally stirring dust and sand, which may affect residents with respiratory sensitivities.

Temperature highs and lows:

Daytime: 42°C–46°C (coastal: 37°C–42°C; mountains: 30°C–36°C)

Nighttime: 28°C–32°C
Humidity: Coastal areas 70%–90%; mountainous regions 65%–85%

Sea conditions: The Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea are forecast to remain slight, making it safer for small vessels and fishing activities.

Safety reminders for drivers

Follow temporary speed limits (80 km/h in Abu Dhabi during fog).

Use fog lights; avoid high beams.

Keep a safe distance to allow extra braking time.

Avoid sudden maneuvers or overtaking in low visibility.

Fog is a common seasonal occurrence in the UAE, providing cooler early-morning conditions but also posing risks for drivers. With red and yellow alerts in effect, motorists are advised to exercise caution, plan journeys carefully, and adhere to safety instructions. Residents can expect a mix of fog, clouds, dust, and high humidity throughout the week.
