Etihad Rail Set to Launch Passenger Services by 2026, Boosting UAE Connectivity
Abu Dhabi: The UAEās national rail network is preparing to welcome passengers, with Etihad Rail confirming its 2026 launch timeline at the second edition of Global Rail 2025, held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event, running until October 2, focuses on āShaping the Future of Transport and Strengthening Global Connectivityā and brings together global leaders in rail, transport, and infrastructure.
Patronage for the exhibition comes from His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister, and the event is supervised by His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Martyrsā Affairs, and Chairman of Etihad Rail.
Etihad Rail: Connecting Emirates with Comfort and Speed
Etihad Railās passenger network is designed to offer world-class comfort, safety, and efficiency, connecting 11 cities and regions nationwideāfrom Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east, passing through key stops such as Ruwais, Al Mirfa, Sharjah, Al Dhaid, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
Trains will accommodate up to 400 passengers per trip, providing dedicated spaces for working, reading, or relaxing, with multiple daily services ensuring smooth transit for individuals, families, and groups. Travel times are optimized for convenience: Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 57 minutes, Abu Dhabi to Fujairah in 105 minutes, and Abu Dhabi to Ruwais in 70 minutes.
Azza Al Suwaidi, Deputy CEO of Etihad Rail Passenger Services, emphasized that integrated first- and last-mile solutions are being developed in partnership with municipalities and local transport providers to ensure a seamless journey.
Stations and Passenger Experience
Station infrastructure is central to the Etihad Rail vision, designed to be accessible, safe, and fully integrated into the urban landscape. Digital-first ticketing, real-time timetable updates, and smart mobility solutions are core features aimed at delivering a modern, efficient, and user-friendly passenger experience.
āQuality, safety, and reliability underpin every phase of the implementation,ā Al Suwaidi stated. āFrom station design to operational management, the network is being built to meet the highest international standards, serving both current and future generations.ā
High-Speed Rail and Economic Impact
In addition to standard passenger services, Etihad Rail is working on a high-speed rail corridor between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, capable of 350 km/h, cutting travel time to just 30 minutes. This initiative is projected to contribute Dh145 billion to the UAEās GDP over the next 50 years, further positioning the nation as a leader in next-generation rail transport.
The high-speed network will enhance business, tourism, and daily commuting efficiency, demonstrating the UAEās long-term commitment to innovative infrastructure and sustainable transport solutions.
Global Rail 2025: A Hub for Innovation
Global Rail 2025 highlights Abu Dhabiās growing role as a hub for sustainable transport innovation. The exhibition brings together over 24 ministers, 200+ exhibitors, and 60 CEOs, generating annual revenues exceeding USD 140 billion.
Participants explore cutting-edge developments in high-speed rail, automation, artificial intelligence, policy, and financing. The program includes strategic and technical conferences, offering insights on digitalization, asset management, and operational innovation from global experts, academics, and industry leaders.
Regional and GCC Connectivity
Beyond national impact, the UAE is also advancing regional connectivity through initiatives such as Hafeet Rail, fostering stronger ties with neighboring GCC nations.
