UAE Backs 2026 SDG Review, Reaffirms Green Leadership

UAE Showcases Global Sustainability Leadership at UN HLPF 2025

The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its commitment to global sustainability at the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2025 in New York, where it unveiled innovative models for sustainable development and announced preparations for its 2026 Voluntary National Review (VNR).

The UAE delegation, comprising senior officials from major ministries and organisations, presented pioneering initiatives including the 2045 XDGs Report and the Government Experience Exchange Programme (GEEP). These initiatives underscore the UAE’s collaborative approach to addressing global challenges in health, economic development, climate action, and biodiversity.

Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Chair of the National Committee on SDGs, highlighted the importance of transparency and cross-sector collaboration, stressing the UAE’s commitment to monitoring SDG progress while shaping a post-2030 development agenda. He also confirmed that the UAE will host the UN Water Conference in December 2026, cementing its role as a global hub for sustainability dialogue.

Expanding Global Partnerships

The UAE launched several high-profile engagements during the forum:

A special GEEP session that expanded partnerships to nearly 50 countries

Sessions on gender balance, child welfare, and economic diplomacy

In addition, the Ministry of Interior’s Green Shield Operation—aimed at protecting biodiversity in the Amazon Basin—was showcased as an example of the UAE’s innovative environmental action.

Active Global Engagement

Throughout the forum, the UAE conducted 48 bilateral meetings, reinforcing its active role in promoting sustainable and inclusive global progress through knowledge sharing, innovation, and international cooperation.
