Russian Bomb Attack in Eastern Ukraine Kills 33, Injures 18
A bomb attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk killed at least 33 people and injured 18 others, Ukrainian authorities said on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The incident was described by officials as a targeted strike on civilians in a strategically important area of the Donetsk region.
According to regional authorities, two city buses were operating on the street when the strike occurred. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the location as a bus stop. Images released by police showed extensive damage and debris at the scene.
Regional governor Vadym Filashkin announced that public transport in Kramatorsk and the nearby city of Sloviansk would be suspended to reduce risks to residents.
The attack comes amid intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, including locations within the Donetsk region's defensive belt. Ukraine has continued to resist Russia's demand to surrender the remaining territory it controls in the region.
Separately, a drone attack on Kyiv on Thursday killed three people and injured 14, according to the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
There was no immediate comment from Moscow regarding the Kramatorsk incident. Russia denies deliberately targeting civilians.
The information is based on reporting attributed to Reuters and statements from Ukrainian officials. Further developments may emerge as the situation continues.
