Saudi Arabia Attacks: Three Residents Killed in Oil Field and Airport Incidents
Saudi Arabia, October 22, 2026: Three residents were killed and several others injured in two separate incidents involving attacks on Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province and Dammam, according to authorities cited in a report by Khaleej Times.
The incidents occurred on Wednesday, October 21, amid escalating regional hostilities involving the Iran-aligned Houthi group in neighbouring Yemen.
Saudi authorities also reported that air defences intercepted drones in the Eastern Province, while a separate attack targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
Two Residents Killed Near Shaybah Oil Field
According to the Saudi Ministry of Energy, air defences intercepted a drone attempting to target a processing facility at Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oil field on Wednesday morning.
The ministry said falling debris following the interception killed two residents, identified as a Filipino and a Nepali national. Two other residents, a Pakistani and an Indian national, were injured.
Authorities responded to the incident and took the necessary measures.
A fire subsequently broke out in a contractor's vehicle outside the facility's perimeter. The ministry stated that the incident had no impact on oil field operations.
Indian Embassy Offers Assistance
The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed that it had learned of an Indian national being injured in the incident.
The embassy said it was in contact with Saudi authorities and was awaiting further details. It also pledged to provide the injured Indian national with the necessary assistance.
Attack Targets King Fahd International Airport
In a separate incident, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation reported early on Thursday, October 22, that King Fahd International Airport in Dammam had been targeted on Wednesday evening.
According to the authority, one resident was killed and eight others were injured. The injuries ranged from minor to critical.
The attack also caused property damage, with officials assessing the extent of the damage.
Flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported that airport operations had been halted at approximately 11:15 pm local time. However, the report noted that Saudi authorities had not officially announced a suspension of airport operations.
Drone Interceptions in the Eastern Province
Overnight, the Saudi-led coalition involved in the Yemen conflict announced that it had intercepted and destroyed four drones in the Eastern Province.
The incidents come amid increased security concerns in Saudi Arabia as hostilities involving the Houthis intensify.
Saudi Arabia has supported Yemen's internationally recognised government through a Saudi-led coalition since 2015. The conflict, which began in 2014, has experienced renewed tensions following the collapse of a four-year truce in June, according to the original report.
Regional Security Concerns Continue
The latest incidents highlight the security challenges facing Saudi Arabia amid escalating regional tensions.
Authorities are responding to the reported attacks and assessing the damage at the affected locations. While the Shaybah oil field reported no disruption to its operations, the status of airport operations was not officially confirmed in the report.
Further updates are expected as Saudi authorities provide additional information.
