RTA Upgrades Dubai Metro’s Ventilation and Cooling Systems

RTA Completes Phase 2 of Major VAC System Overhaul on Dubai Metro

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), through its Rail Agency, has announced the successful completion of Phase 2 of its largest ventilation and air conditioning (VAC) system upgrade across the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro. The initiative, part of the RTA Strategic Plan 2024–2030, is designed to enhance passenger comfort, service reliability, and sustainability.

In this phase, RTA refurbished 876 VAC assets across 14 stations and two car parks on the Red Line, including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), smoke extract fans, and pressurisation systems. The upgrades ensure stations maintain a consistent temperature of 24–25°C, a crucial factor during Dubai’s peak summer months.

The 10-month project was carefully scheduled during off-peak hours and overnight, ensuring no disruption to train operations or passenger services. It builds on the success of Phase 1, which covered 261 assets across 13 stations.

Preparations are already underway for Phase 3, which will target the remaining public-area and back-of-house cooling systems. This phase will also introduce energy-efficient variable flow technology to further optimise performance and sustainability.

The project reflects RTA’s strong collaboration with Keolis-MHI, operator of Dubai Metro and Tram, and reinforces their shared commitment to providing world-class, seamless, and sustainable mobility solutions.
