Lieutenant General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, said the situation was under control and there was no immediate cause for concern. He addressed residentsā complaints during the āDirect Lineā programme.
The UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE) also stated that its assessments had found no indications of concern. The ministry said field monitoring and response efforts were continuing to reduce the odours and help them dissipate.
Authorities are working with relevant local agencies to determine the nature and source of the smell. Officials have also said that the public will receive timely guidance if any developments require precautionary measures.
Since Monday, residents in several neighbourhoods have reported a strong, pungent smell, with some describing it as resembling fuel or gas.
