UAE Fuel Price Hike: Will Moving, Food Delivery and Car Recovery Charges Increase?

UAE Fuel Price Hike: Impact on Moving, Food Delivery and Car Recovery Services

Fuel prices in the United Arab Emirates increased from October 1, 2026, putting additional pressure on businesses that depend on vehicles for their daily operations. Moving companies, car recovery operators and restaurants are assessing the impact of higher fuel expenses while looking for ways to manage their costs.

According to a report published by Khaleej Times on October 3, 2026, diesel prices increased by 50 fils per litre to Dh4.80, while Special 95 petrol rose by 59 fils to Dh4.28 per litre.

Moving Companies Face Higher Transportation Costs

Moving companies are among the businesses affected by the fuel price increase. When a truck transports furniture from Sharjah to Dubai, it may have to return without another load, increasing the fuel cost of each job.

Freelance mover Zeeshan Khan said that a journey covering approximately 40 to 50 kilometres one way can result in a total round trip of 80 to 100 kilometres. Depending on the vehicle's fuel efficiency, the diesel price increase could add approximately Dh7 to Dh17 to a round trip.

Some movers are currently absorbing these additional expenses rather than passing them on to customers. They are also considering combining furniture deliveries for customers travelling in the same direction to reduce unnecessary trips and save fuel.

Car Recovery Services Calculate Additional Expenses

Car recovery operators are also monitoring the impact of higher diesel prices. A recovery truck may need to travel to a stranded vehicle, transport it to a garage and then return to its base.

According to recovery operator Rafiq, based in Sharjah, the latest diesel increase could add approximately Dh8 to Dh25 to a trip covering 100 to 150 kilometres, depending on the truck's fuel consumption.

Operators have not immediately increased their charges and are reviewing their monthly expenses. Longer-distance recovery requests, including trips to desert and mountain areas during the winter season, could put additional pressure on operating costs.

Food Delivery Costs May Remain Limited for Short Trips

Restaurants that provide local food delivery may experience a smaller direct impact because many orders are delivered within nearby neighbourhoods. Motorcycles generally offer better fuel economy than larger commercial vehicles.

A restaurant operator in Al Nahda explained that local deliveries usually involve short distances and that motorcycles may need refuelling only once a week.

Using an estimated fuel efficiency of 40 kilometres per litre, the additional fuel cost for a 10-kilometre delivery would be approximately 15 fils, based on the stated petrol price increase of 59 fils per litre. Actual expenses will vary depending on the vehicle, route and fuel consumption.

Although the extra cost for an individual delivery may be small, the cumulative impact could increase for restaurants handling many orders or serving customers over longer distances.

Will Customers Pay More?

As of October 3, 2026, the businesses quoted in the report had not introduced additional charges for moving services, car recovery or food delivery because of the latest fuel price increase.

Instead, operators are calculating their monthly expenses and exploring ways to improve efficiency. These measures include combining deliveries, reducing unnecessary journeys and managing vehicle usage.

However, if fuel prices remain high or businesses experience more long-distance trips, some operators may reconsider their pricing in the future.

Conclusion

The October 2026 fuel price increase has raised operating costs for several UAE businesses, particularly those relying on diesel-powered trucks. Moving and car recovery services may face a more noticeable impact on longer journeys, while short-distance food deliveries may see a smaller increase in fuel expenses.

For now, the businesses covered in the report are absorbing the additional costs. Whether customers face higher charges later will depend on fuel expenses, travel distances and individual business decisions.
