Dubai Churches Remain Closed as Expats Attend Easter Mass in Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah
Christian expatriates in the UAE celebrated Easter in different ways this year as churches in Dubai remained closed and worship services were moved online amid heightened precautionary measures linked to regional tensions.
According to the report published by Khaleej Times, churches in Dubai suspended masses and worship services from April 3, 2026, until further notice. The Community Development Authority had directed places of worship to conduct prayers and religious activities online to help safeguard worshippers.
Many residents travelled to neighbouring emirates to attend church services in person. Dubai resident Rem Sagarino travelled to Ras Al Khaimah with his father to attend Easter mass at St Anthony of Padua Church. Other residents attended services at St Michaelās Church in Sharjah.
Some families chose to celebrate Easter at home by following online services, sharing religious readings and preparing traditional meals. Community activities, including Easter crafts and egg hunts for children, also helped families mark the occasion.
The closures coincided with Passion Week, which culminated in Easter Sunday on April 5, 2026. The experiences highlighted how Christian communities adapted their religious observances while following precautionary measures.
