Dubai Cashless Strategy Surpasses 2026 Targets Ahead of Schedule
Dubai's Cashless Strategy has surpassed its key targets for 2026 ahead of its scheduled two-year timeframe, marking significant progress in the emirate's transition towards a digital payments economy.
According to Dubai Finance, the strategy's cashless transactions index reached 90.1%, exceeding the target of 90%. The Digital Enablement Index for the government sector reached 100%, while the community happiness index also stood at 90.1%.
More Than AED 8 Billion Economic Contribution
The strategy has contributed more than AED 8 billion to Dubai's economy through initiatives supporting the adoption of digital payment solutions. The programme has encouraged collaboration among government departments, financial institutions, payment providers and technology companies.
The strategy recorded progress across three key pillars: governance achieved 97%, society reached 95%, and innovation recorded 93%, according to the final report presented by Dubai Finance to the Dubai Strategic Affairs Council.
Government Services Embrace Digital Payments
Government cashless collections reached 99.66% during the first half of 2026. The government sector's Digital Enablement Index also reached 100%, reflecting the availability of digital payment methods across government institutions.
Dubai Finance established more than 70 strategic partnerships with government entities and private-sector businesses, while strategic accelerators achieved 95% completion during the first half of the year.
Dubai Strengthens Its Position as a Global Business Hub
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum praised the cooperation between government entities and private businesses in achieving the strategy's goals. The initiative supports Dubai's ambitions to improve economic competitiveness, encourage innovation and provide convenient digital services.
Officials highlighted that a more integrated payment ecosystem can improve the experience of residents, customers, investors and visitors while supporting business activity and tourism.
Dubai Finance stated that the next phase will focus on maintaining these achievements, expanding digital payment solutions and strengthening partnerships to develop a secure and flexible payments ecosystem.
The progress reflects Dubai's continued efforts to build a technology-driven economy and strengthen its position as an international destination for business and investment.
