Boxer Anthony Joshua injured in Nigeria highway crash: Media
British heavyweight boxing icon Anthony Joshua has been injured in a devastating road accident in Nigeria, according to local authorities and international media. The crash occurred on December 29, 2025, on the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State when the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua and members of his team collided with a stationary truck.
The accident resulted in the tragic deaths of two of Joshua’s closest associates — his personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele and strength and conditioning coach Sina Ghami — who were pronounced dead at the scene. Both men had worked with Joshua for years and were considered integral members of his training camp.
Joshua, a former two-time world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, sustained only minor injuries and was taken to a hospital in Lagos for treatment. Nigerian officials later confirmed that he was discharged after evaluation and allowed to recover at home, accompanied by his family.
In the aftermath, Nigerian police charged the vehicle’s driver, 46-year-old Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, with multiple offences, including dangerous and reckless driving, causing death by dangerous driving, and driving without a valid licence. He was granted bail but remains in custody pending trial on January 20.
The collision has sparked widespread discussion about road safety in Nigeria, a country with a high rate of highway accidents. Fans, fellow athletes, and the global boxing community have expressed condolences and support for Joshua during his recovery.
