Major Aadhaar Update for UAE NRIs from November 1

Aadhaar Goes Fully Digital: What UAE-Based Indians Need to Know from November 1

Starting November 1, 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is rolling out a major digital upgrade that will simplify how Indians — including NRIs living in the UAE — manage their Aadhaar cards. This new system allows users to update key demographic details such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number entirely online.

The goal is to make Aadhaar management faster, more secure, and convenient for Indians abroad who previously had to depend on physical centres in India for updates.

Aadhaar Now Fully Online

Until now, updating Aadhaar information meant visiting an enrolment centre, submitting physical documents, and waiting for manual verification. The new system changes all that — updates can now be done directly through the official Aadhaar portal, without visiting any office or sending paperwork.

From November 1, cardholders can modify the following details online:

Name

Address

Date of Birth

Mobile Number

This update is particularly beneficial for UAE-based NRIs, who often face delays or logistical challenges in updating records from abroad. The online process will make it easier to manage Aadhaar-linked services such as banking, PAN verification, and government document linking.

Expanded List of Accepted Documents

To further streamline the process, UIDAI has expanded the list of acceptable documents for verification. In addition to traditional proofs like passports or ration cards, utility bills — including electricity, gas, or water bills — will now be accepted as valid proof of address.

This update allows NRIs to complete the process more easily, even when they are not physically present in India.

How to Update Aadhaar Online

UAE-based NRIs can update their Aadhaar details in a few simple steps:

Visit the official UIDAI website (https://uidai.gov.in).

Log in using your Aadhaar number and the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Click on “Update Aadhaar” and choose the field you wish to change.

Upload supporting documents (if required).

Submit the update request and track its progress online.

Once verified, the changes will automatically appear in your Aadhaar profile.

Note: To use the online update feature, your mobile number must already be linked to your Aadhaar for OTP authentication.

Updated Fees (Effective November 1, 2025)

UIDAI has also announced a revised fee structure for Aadhaar updates:

â‚č75 for name, address, or mobile updates

â‚č125 for biometric updates

Free biometric updates for children aged 5–7 and 15–17 years

Free document uploads online until June 14, 2026

â‚č75 charge for document updates at centres after June 2026

Aadhaar reprint: â‚č50

Home enrolment service: â‚č700 for the first applicant, â‚č350 for each additional applicant

These updated rates make digital updates more affordable and encourage users to switch to online self-service options.

Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline Approaching

Another major reminder for Indian residents and NRIs: All PAN card holders must link their Aadhaar by December 31, 2025.

If not linked by the deadline, the PAN will become inactive from January 1, 2026, impacting tax filings and financial transactions in India.
New PAN applicants will also need to undergo Aadhaar-based digital verification as part of the updated KYC process.

Simplified Digital KYC for Banks and Finance

In addition to the Aadhaar update system, India is introducing paperless KYC (Know Your Customer) verification methods.
Banks and financial institutions can now verify customers through:

Aadhaar OTP verification

Video KYC

Optional in-person verification

This update drastically reduces the time and paperwork required for opening accounts, applying for loans, or verifying financial profiles. For UAE-based Indians maintaining NRE/NRO accounts, this means faster onboarding and simpler verification with minimal documentation.

Impact for UAE-Based Indians

The new digital Aadhaar rules bring multiple benefits for NRIs:

No need to visit enrolment centres in India.

Instant updates for key details through the UIDAI website.

Expanded list of acceptable documents for smoother verification.

Easier Aadhaar-PAN linking and faster bank KYC.

However, failing to link Aadhaar with PAN before the December deadline could disrupt tax filings, financial transactions, and account access in India.

Bottom Line

The digital Aadhaar transformation marks a major step toward a fully paperless identity system in India. For UAE-based NRIs, this is a convenient and secure way to manage personal information remotely — whether for banking, taxation, or verification purposes.

By updating Aadhaar details online and ensuring timely PAN linkage, NRIs can enjoy seamless access to all Indian digital and financial services from anywhere in the world.
