Historic UK Rugby School to Open Super-Premium Campus in Dubai

Dubai’s education landscape is set for a landmark transformation with the arrival of Rugby School, one of the oldest and most prestigious independent schools in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1567, the historic institution will open Rugby School Dubai in the 2026–2027 academic year, marking its first-ever campus in the Middle East.

The new school will be located in Nad Al Sheba and will operate under a partnership between Rugby School Global and Aldar Education, one of the UAE’s largest and fastest-growing education groups. The project is being positioned as a “super-premium” British school, promising to deliver an authentic Rugby School UK experience for families in Dubai.

A Historic School Comes to the Middle East

Rugby School holds a unique place in British education history. Established more than 450 years ago, it is globally recognised not only for academic excellence but also as the birthplace of the sport of rugby football, which emerged from the school in the 19th century.

By bringing Rugby School to Dubai, Aldar Education aims to introduce a brand that represents centuries of tradition, strong pastoral care, leadership development, and holistic education. Until now, Rugby School’s overseas presence has been limited to select international campuses, making the Dubai launch especially significant for families in the Middle East seeking elite British education.

From EYFS to Sixth Form

Rugby School Dubai will offer education from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) through to Sixth Form, following a British curriculum model aligned with the values and standards of the original Rugby School in the UK.

The school is expected to emphasise:

Academic excellence

Character building

Leadership and responsibility

Strong co-curricular and sports programmes

Wellbeing and inclusion

This approach reflects Rugby School’s long-standing philosophy of educating students not only for examination success but for life beyond the classroom.

Leadership Appointment Confirmed

To lead the school’s launch and establish its academic vision, Henry Price has been appointed as Executive Principal of Rugby School Dubai. He will be responsible for overseeing curriculum development, staff recruitment, and the transition to the new campus identity.

Education experts say early leadership appointments are critical for new international schools, as they help define standards well ahead of opening and reassure families considering enrolment.

Kent College Dubai Campus Transition

According to education platform WhichSchoolAdvisor, Rugby School Dubai will take over the existing Kent College Dubai campus in Nad Al Sheba.

This follows a mutual agreement between Kent College Canterbury and Aldar Education to end their partnership after the 2025–2026 academic year. Parents have been informed that Kent College Dubai will relocate to a new site in 2026 under a new partnership with Laureate Education.

Both Aldar Education and Rugby School Global have clarified that all transition and operational plans remain subject to approval from the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

State-of-the-Art Facilities Planned

The Nad Al Sheba campus will undergo enhancements to align with Rugby School’s global standards. Planned facilities include:

Advanced science and technology laboratories

A 400-seat auditorium for performances and events

Extensive sports grounds reflecting the school’s sporting heritage

Swimming pools

Dedicated spaces for arts, dining, inclusion, and student wellbeing

These facilities are designed to support both academic and co-curricular excellence, reinforcing the school’s “whole-child” approach.

Aldar Education’s Growing Footprint

Based in Abu Dhabi, Aldar Education currently educates more than 38,000 students across 31 operated and managed schools in the UAE, with staff and students representing over 100 nationalities.

Commenting on the partnership, Sahar Cooper, CEO of Aldar Education, said the group was proud to bring Rugby School’s centuries-old legacy to the region.

“Our partnership with Rugby School Global allows us to introduce one of the world’s most respected British schools to the Middle East, offering families a truly distinctive educational proposition,” she said.

What This Means for Dubai Parents

The arrival of Rugby School Dubai adds to Dubai’s already competitive premium education sector, particularly for British-curriculum families seeking heritage brands with global recognition. With rising demand for elite schooling options, the entry of such a historic institution is expected to attract strong interest from both expatriate and Emirati families.

As Dubai continues to establish itself as a global education hub, the launch of Rugby School Dubai underscores the emirate’s appeal to world-class institutions and its commitment to offering diverse, high-quality education choices.

With doors set to open in 2026–2027, Rugby School Dubai represents more than a new campus — it marks the transfer of 450 years of British educational tradition into the heart of the UAE.
