Think It’s Real? Abu Dhabi Warns of Fake Accounts Stealing Your Money

Authorities in Abu Dhabi have issued a fresh warning about the growing threat of fake online accounts designed to scam residents and steal their money. According to Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Customs, fraudsters are increasingly using sophisticated methods to impersonate legitimate businesses and services.

These scams often appear on social media platforms, websites, and even through text messages. Criminals create convincing profiles using attractive pricing, professional-looking visuals, and fabricated details to trick users into believing the offers are genuine.

Common tactics include fake ticket sales for events, bogus visa services, misleading job or domestic worker offers, and unlicensed insurance schemes. Scammers also advertise vehicles at unrealistically low prices or promote non-existent real estate deals to lure victims.

In many cases, victims are asked to share personal or banking information under the pretext of delivery tracking, investment opportunities, or customer verification. Authorities stress that once such details are shared, they can be used to commit financial fraud.

Officials have urged residents to remain vigilant, verify sources before making payments, and deal only with trusted and official entities. They also warned against clicking suspicious links or downloading unknown applications, as these can give scammers access to sensitive data and financial accounts.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity through official channels such as the ā€œAmanā€ service, as authorities continue to monitor and take action against cybercrime networks.
