Dubai Launches New Unit to Police E-Scooters, Bicycles from May 1

Dubai has announced the launch of a new Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit to oversee the use of e-scooters and bicycles across the city, starting May 1, 2026. The initiative is a joint effort between Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), aimed at enhancing road safety amid the rising popularity of personal mobility devices.

The unit will patrol cycling tracks, major roads, and designated “soft mobility zones” throughout the emirate. Authorities will closely monitor rider behavior and enforce compliance with traffic regulations, including staying within designated lanes, adhering to speed limits, and wearing helmets and protective gear.

Officials have stated that violations such as reckless riding, carrying passengers on e-scooters, and using non-compliant devices will result in fines. In serious cases, vehicles may also be impounded.

The move comes as Dubai continues to promote sustainable and smart mobility solutions while addressing safety concerns linked to increased usage of e-scooters and bicycles. Authorities believe the new unit will play a key role in reducing accidents and ensuring safer roads for all users.
