US Reviews Expanded Military Plans on Iran, Axios Reports

The United States is actively reviewing expanded military options against Iran, according to a recent Axios report, as tensions between the two nations continue to escalate.

Senior U.S. military officials are set to brief President Donald Trump on a range of new strategies, including a potential “short and powerful” wave of airstrikes targeting key Iranian infrastructure. The plans are being developed by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and are aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran amid stalled negotiations over its nuclear program.

In addition to airstrikes, other options under consideration include securing parts of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil transit route, and conducting special operations targeting Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles.

The move signals that Washington is seriously weighing further escalation, either to force Iran back to the negotiating table or to deliver a decisive military blow. Officials indicate that such plans are part of broader contingency strategies and no final decision has yet been made.

The ongoing conflict, which has already impacted global oil markets and regional stability, has drawn criticism domestically over its cost and long-term strategy. Despite this, U.S. leadership maintains that increased military pressure may be necessary to counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions and regional influence.

The situation remains fluid, with both diplomatic and military paths still under consideration, raising concerns about a potential wider conflict in the Middle East.
